When it applies
Once per turn, when you hit with a finesse or ranged weapon, you add the Sneak Attack dice if either:
- you have advantage on the attack roll, or
- another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage.
Once per turn, not once per round: a Sneak Attack on an opportunity attack, during someone else's turn, is fair game.
Critical hits
A critical hit doubles every damage die in the attack, Sneak Attack included. A 5th-level rogue's crit with a rapier is 2d8 + 6d6 plus the modifier. Advantage makes both the hit and the crit more likely.
